20 Jahre Voodoo Rhythm Reocrds und wir fanden es ist an der Zeit unser erstes Album Release wieder zu Veröffentlichen vom jahre 1997. Nach ein paar 7" singels haben wir damals gedacht eine LP zu machen und die Roys haben grad ihr Erstes Album eingespielt, Record Junkie ist out Of Business gegangen so hab ich mich als Voodoo Rhythm in Meinem Wohnzimmer daran getan die Scheibe zu machen... und wie es sich Herausstellen sollte war ich 10 Jahre zu früh mit diesem Produkt, das ganze Album Sprüht so enorm von Punk Psychadelic, Garage Rock'n'roll Drogen und Wildheit das es zur Zeit vom Höhepunkt des Kommerziellen Technos völlig unterging, Leute haben sogar die Platte zurückgeschickt weil sie wegen dem sound der darauf so Brüskiert waren und dachten es sei ein produktions fehler ... heute 2012 passt die Scheibe wie die Faust aufs Auge, in einer Zeit wo jeder alles verändern will und niemand weis wo es hingehen soll und ob man jetzt Stehen oder Gehen soll ist diese Platte die Antwort auf eigentlich Praktisch alle Fragen.. oder Besser sie Lässt keine Fragen offen... sie animiert zum weitermachen und zum alles ausprobieren zum spielen zum ausbrechen Wild sein oder einfach hinliegen und relaxen .. diese Platte hat nach ihrer Erstveröffentlichung durch die Jahre einen Cult Status erlangt und wird verzweifelt gesucht von Platten Sammlern und Musik Fans auf der ganzen Welt, nun endlich wider als Vinyl LP und das erste mal Als CD und Digital Download Erhältlich und wird ihre weiteren schritte nun vornehmen, aufgenommen noch Damals in Oberdiesbach im Luftschutzkeller der Kirchgemeinde Hauses auf ein Studer Tonband Gerät dann im ping pong verfahren etliche spuren rübergelegt bis zum abwinken und so einer der Außergewöhnlichsten Produktionen abgeliefert die je in der Schweiz herausgekommen ist

SLEAZEGRINDER (UK)
Well, if anything was ever gonna get me to commence battle in the decrepit-computer desert and start scrawling again then it was only really ever gonna be the backlog building up from this label, eh? And what better way to trigger things than this reissue of not just the Swiss psych-stewards long-unavailable first full-lenghter, but the labels too - coupled with the delightful boast that it makes 'Jon Spencer sound like Joni Mitchell'. All too tantalising. As us cynical scribblers know all too well, such things are usually ridiculous slurry largely revealing such statements to be the musical equivalent of a particularly un-inventive mollusc.
So, yarse, I'm quite fucking ecstatic to announce it does indeed make the somewhat at times over-rated Blues Explosion sound like a band simpering beneath slaps from irate fish-wives. Open this unassuming garden gate and you're immediately (kind courtesy of one of the best racket screeches of an 'Intro' ever) sucked into a vortex of skewed country-blues (starting their trend of taking old chestnuts on a ride round the Roy's own asteroid belt with 'Train I Ride') casually chucking cows'n'trees every which way into the caterwaul and merry cataclysms they conjure then dismiss to their destruction chambers - shruggingly redefining the meaning of gonzoid - interspersing the rippling drones and rickety reels with snatches of samples, spoken word, erm, insights, screams n' hollers, feedback and chord squalls like earthquakes resembling snippets of Red Crayola's FreeFormFreakouts, all the while hammering it ragged into the red so far your eyes almost leave your head to see what the hell's happening to your ears. A stunning madcap melange that'll make meringue out of your mincemeat.

GONZO CIRCUS ( NL)
Voodoo Rhythm bestaat twintig jaar, en dat moet worden gevierd. Niet op een standaard manier natuurlijk, want zowel label als labeleigenaar (Lightning Beatman) zijn niet te vinden voor een gewone gang van zaken. 'Forgotten Million Sellers' van het trio Roy & The Devil's Motorcycle was ooit de eerste langspeler (op vinyl uiteraard) die het licht zag op het label, dat toen al enkele jaren cassettes en singles uitbracht. Muziekcassettes, jazeker, en ook de meeste recente releases van het label zijn weer in dat formaat te krijgen, al is het maar om de muziekindustrie dwars te zitten. Beatman heeft gelijk als hij stelt dat het eerste album van Roy & TDM zijn tijd veel te ver vooruit was. De drie broers uit de Zwitserse bergen met een aanvullende drummer die geen familie is, maakt namelijk zwaar overstuurde bluespunk waar velen ook nu nog niet aan toe zullen zijn. Het kan ook aan de manier van opnemen liggen: van tape naar tape naar tape, dan via de telefoon weer op tape en dan de boel opblazen. Kwaliteit voorop, haha. De intro lijkt wel van Throbbing Gristle waarna de bluespunk ons rond de oren vliegt. Trashier dan dit kan het nauwelijks en van enige conventies trekt de band zich niets aan. Hebben ze zin om wat te leuteren? Dan doe je dat toch gewoon, om verstild een muziekje te maken en dan plots Jon Spencer voor te gaan in bluespunk, met een ferme scheut psychedelica erin, dat spreekt. Tegelijk komt het derde, productief zijn de broers niet, album van Roy & TDM uit. En is er veel verschil te merken? Niet echt, behalve dat de opnametechnieken toch ietwat moderner worden aangepakt en de spielerei tussen en in de nummers er grotendeels uit is verdwenen. De punk heeft wat moeten wijken voor nog meer blues, terwijl de psychedelica iets conventioneler in de mix werd gegoten, richting Sonic Boom's solowerk of zelfs Spacemen 3. En de drie broers hebben een nieuwe drummer: Alain Perret-Gentil. De man is zanger bij Come'N'Go en speelt hier behalve drums ook harmonica en doet achtergrondzang. En hij maakt de songs groovier dan de broers ze ooit maakten. 'Tell It To The People' is minder vooruitstrevend dan het debuut, 'Because Of Woman' uit 2006 hangt er een beetje tussenin, maar wel een stuk toegankelijker en dus geschikt voor een breder publiek.(Patrick Bruneel)

het is in het land der rock-'n-roll absoluut af te raden om een groep af te schrijven op basis van één plaat en er erna nooit meer iets van te beluisteren. Dat is een lesje dat wij met Roy & The Devil's Motorcycle in ieder geval nog maar eens geleerd hebben. Waar de groep met Because Of Women nog maar weinig indruk wist te maken, daar komt het combo met Tell It To The People immers vervaarlijk dicht in de buurt van hoogstaande psychedelische rock-'n-roll-bands als The Brian Jonestown Massacre en Thee Oh Sees.
Wij hebben hier ineens twee promo's van Roy & The Devil's Motorcycle in de brievenbus gekregen, maar alleen Tell It To The People is een nieuwe plaat. Forgotten Million Sellers is namelijk het heruitgebrachte debuut uit 1997 en daardoor vooral interessant om de evolutie van de groep te begrijpen. Het combo bracht in de beginperiode namelijk veel meer noise dan met de twee laatste platen en in dat opzicht is Forgotten Million Sellers een erg ironische titel voor een plaatje dat eigenlijk allesbehalve million sellers bevat. Hetgeen men echter niet kan zeggen over Tell It To The People, want met het nieuwe album belooft Roy & The Devil's Motorcycle meer dan ooit tevoren over de tongen van psychedelische rockliefhebbers te zullen gaan. Niet dat het debuut Forgotten Million Sellers alleen maar noise bevat, want met "Train I Ride" probeerde het combo reeds het soort ouderwetse rock-'n-roll van de jaren vijftig in harmonie te brengen met lawaai. Toch lagen beide uitersten toen nog net iets te ver uit elkaar om er iets beluisterbaar van te maken en dat is eveneens het gevoel dat je met nummers als "Dullpain Beat" en "Boots On Fire" bekruipt, met het logische gevolg dat Forgotten Million Sellers veel meer dan Tell It To The People een punkplaat lijkt. Niet slecht, maar wanneer je beide platen na elkaar beluistert merk je toch wel dat er vijftien jaar tijdsverschil tussen zit en dat het combo anno 2012 niet meer met een grove borstel, maar eerder met een fluwelen handschoen te werk gaat.
Met "Six Pink Cadillac" begint het nieuwste wapenfeit Tell It To The People in ieder geval erg veelbelovend. Op een zacht gitaarlijntje hoort u één van de gebroeders Stähli (er zijn er drie in totaal) een dromerig stuk tekst als "Six little pretty girls in a pink cadillac on the way down to me..." mijmeren. Daarmee roept het nummer herinneringen op aan een gedrogeerde, met de zon communicerende Jim Morrison, wat als aftrap voor een psychedelische plaat natuurlijk wel kan tellen. En het plaatje wordt er niet saaier op, want met het erg hevige "I'm Allright" laat Roy & The Devil's Motorcycle ons horen hoe Billy Corgan op psychedelische muziek zou klinken. De vocals van de broers Stähli lijken namelijk erg veel op Corgan's vlijmscherpe stem en dat is het zout op de patatten dat, bijgestaan door een al even overtuigende mondharmonica, voor heel wat vuurwerk zorgt.
Wanneer Roy & The Devil's Motorcycle met zijn interpretatie van de Amerikaanse folkklassieker "Casey Jones" nog meer van dat moois in huis blijkt te hebben, is het hek helemaal van de dam. "Put your head out the window, see my drivers roll!" klinkt het op de psychedelische tonen en daarbij is het echt niet moeilijk je in te beelden hoe fantastisch het moet zijn om Tell It To The People op een warme zomerdag met de ramen wijd open tijdens het cruisen af te spelen. Maar zelfs met het compleet onmuzikale "Will The Circle Be Unbroken?" weet Roy & The Devil's Motorcycle te bekoren, wat ondanks het feit dat er niet gezongen, maar alleen gedicht wordt en er naast de tekst eigenlijk niets meer dan een aan een kernreactor verwant gezoem te horen is, doet het nummer vooral aan Jim Morrison-achtige poëzie -- type "Bird Of Prey" -- denken.
Dat het er in de slotminuten nog net iets puristischer aan toe gaat, kan het gevoel niet drukken dat Roy & The Devil's Motorcycle met Tell It To The People zijn beste plaat tot nog toe aflevert. "Piggy Bank" is weliswaar een heel traag nummer, maar met het geluid van druppelend water toch even speciaal als de rest van het album en zelfs het naar country teruggrijpende "Henrys Blues" heeft als finale een perfecte timing. Een resultaat dat Roy & The Devil's Motorcycle ineens promoveert tot een uiterst interessante groep waarvan wij in de toekomst geen plaat meer willen missen.
SPIRITUALIZED
Impossible to get hold of for the last 10 years, VR are rereleasing the bands vicious, sprawling 1998 debut FORGOTTEN MILLION SELLERS. Its a peaking rush of distortion and teenage punk aggression stretched-out with intoxicating insanity and freewheeling experimentation. the proof is in the (blood red) pudding. Tape hiss and a real not-giving-a-f*ck glues it all together with such direct howling and laughter, nothing is out of place. A deep love of blues turned into analogue art by fearless European avant-punks that makes Jon Spencer sound like Joni Mitchell. My highlight is MOTORWAY – 2 minutes of the stooges playing 3 songs-in-one, LOUD as a helicopter in a bunker fronted by a European no-wave-punk channeling everything, high and low.
HOERSPIEGEL ( DE)
Böses Boxen zerlegendes Klanggewirr erschallt beim Intro dieser Scheibe, die die Erstveröffentlichung des Labels im Jahr 1997 darstellte und daher für Wert befunden wurde wiederveröffentlicht zu werden.
Die Scheibe war damals so wirr wie heute, führte sogar dazu, dass Käufer aufgrund der Vermutung die Scheibe wäre kaputt diese ans Label zurückschickten. Doch kaputt war da nichts und ist es auch heute nicht. Vielmehr ist dieses Album ein Werk, das durch Klangkollagen, psychedelische Elemente zwischen Blues, Punk, Garage Rock uvm. eine Mischung bietet, die kaum zu beschreiben ist. Erinnert mich ‚dullpain beat' in gewisser Weise an experimentelle Songs von Nick Cave, so finden sich in ‚Mr. Charlie' Klänge, die Industrial Bands erfreuen würden.
Fazit:
Auch bei der Wiederveröffentlichung wird es wieder Leute geben, die den Kopf schütteln, aber auch jene, die sagen: Ich liebe diesen Krach!

„Forgotten Million Sellers" war eines der ersten Alben, welches auf Reverend Beat-Mans exquisitem Label Voodoo erschien, klingt als entsprechend kauzig und eigenständig, denn dafür stand die Firma schon zu Beginn. Da in diesem Jahr nun das dritte Album des Quartetts aus der Schweiz erscheint, kommt es sehr gelegen, dass Voodoo Rhythm das Debüt aus dem Jahr 1998 erneut veröffentlichen. DasLabel-beschreibtROY&THEDEVIL'SMOTORCYCLEsDebütmitfolgendenWorten: „superkillerpsychedelicBluesPunkfromtheearlySwissteenagemountainbrothers".Solch eine schöne Umschreibung ist auf jeden Fall zitierwürdig. Die drei Stähli-Brüder entfachen an ihren Gitarren einen wilden Orkan aus Garage-Energie und -Rauheit, abgefahrener Psychedelic, schwermütigem Blues und Kauzigkeit. Viele Nummern sind unter zwei Minuten lang, und den längeren Stücken haftet etwas von Soundscapes an, aber dies unterstreicht den psychedelischen Charakter der Truppe. Anspieltipps sind der Roller 'Train I Ride', der Bluegrass-Rocker 'Dullpain Beat', das aggressive 'Blue Angel' und das dynamische 'Something's Wrong', die Schrulle 'Remember Me' sowie das traurige 'True Romance'.

After RECORD JUNKIE stopped producing music, Voodoo Rhythm Records was born and released the very first Roy and The Devils Motorcycle album as his first release on the label. The cover artwork was a special screen print, hand cutted and folded, but back then the album was definitely 10 YEARS TOO EARLY, TOO MUCH BLUES and way TOO MUCH PUNK and PSYCHEDELIC..It is so RAW and TRASHY that people sent it back to me, complaining about the sound qualitee and their WEIRDNESS..... hahaha... over the years this album turned into a CULT OBJECT and COLLECTORS item. Nerds, music fans all over the world didnt stop asking about it, it was a curiosity... until today !!!
AURAL INNOVATIONS
What do you get when you combine country fried rock n' roll with the manic energy of cowpunk and add in touches of sound collage and generous amounts of mutant guitar noise? If you guessed Roy and the Devil's Motorcycle, you're right! And with a sound like that, you might expect these guys to come from some southwestern psych town like Austin, Texas, but these four guys (three of them brothers) come from Switzerland! Forgotten Million Sellers was the very first release from Voodoo Rhythm Records back in 1997, and is here now, fifteen years later, re-issued in celebration of the release of the band's third and latest album, Tell It To the People. You know that Forgotten Million Sellers is no standard country rock record from the start, when it begins with what sounds like a needle scraping across a 33 1/3 rpm record playing at 78 rpm, before distorted guitars, rampaging drumming, wailing feedback and hallucinatory voices assault the eardrums. From that noisy beginning, we launch into a collection of raucous tunes that have the frenzied cowpunk energy of bands like Jason and the Scorchers and Chickasaw Mudd Puppies combined with the noise/sound experimentalism of Sonic Youth. Fitting in with the punk ethos, the songs are mostly short (1 ½ – 3 minutes), but can reach some very intense moments with the vocalist screaming and the instruments wailing away like there's no tomorrow. It only slows down in the middle a bit for a few slightly longer songs (3 – 5 minutes) combining sound collage with some twisted hurtin' tunes and monstrous bursts of feedback. Crazy stuff! It's not totally my thing, but I can appreciate what the band was trying to do. I'm just more into the psychedelic trippy side of things than the wild punk kind of sound that imbues these tracks. Man, did I have a smile inducing surprise on the way.
